Fayette County has the distinction of being, culturally and geographically, one of the few crossroads of Texas from time immortal. When Texas’ frontiers were being expanded in the late 1800s, railroads from all points of the compass met in Fayette County. In the 20th century, two of the major U. S. highways, 77 & 90, crossed in Schulenburg.
